Tone Art choose AWS 900+ SE

Since 1993, Viennese studio and education provider Tone Art have offered intensive audio engineering courses with students taught in a real studio environment and mentored by music recording professionals. Their courses have always focused on giving students real world experience, using the very highest grade analogue and digital recording technology to realise an artist or producers creative vision. Their impressive success rate placing graduates in real music industry jobs is testament to their no compromise approach to education and technology.

In 2009 studio owners Christian and Florian Satter decided it was time to upgrade their console and they chose an AWS 900+SE. Commenting on their purchase, they say: “We have been looking for a very high quality console that would meet today’s and indeed tomorrows’ standards. For a long time there wasn't anything on the market that really satisfied our criteria. But when SSL launched the AWS 900+SE with the logictivity control, we were complety blown away by the sound quality, the transparancy, depth and much more by the dynamic range. Is there anything more important than achieving the best sound for your demanding customers? In our opinion it’s the most modern way to record and we’re delighted with the results that can be achieved with the AWS. If you run audio through the console, everything immediately sounds good and it’s the easiest way to combine analogue front end with high quality control over the digital audio environment.“

Local distributor, TSAMM, also recommended an upgrade to SSL I/O and Audio Converters for the Tone Art system to accompany their console. They installed one MADIXtreme128 PCIe audio interface and two Alpha-Link MADI AX to provide 48 analogue and 48 ADAT I/O. The Tone Art team were equally enthusiastic about their new I/O system; “We were really surprised about the low latency and the crystal clear sound and the flexibility of system. We use the ADAT ports to connect to our other rooms within our school. So, everything can be routed to the AWS from any other studio. A great and flexible system.”

The SSL upgrade was rounded out with the addition of new inside the box processing tools with a Duende DSP powered plug-in solution. “The DUENDE Mini also blew us away. Honestly, we didn’t expect something to sound so close to analogue from a DSP box. We have to say, the X-EQ and X-Verb are the favourites at the moment.”
