Sungrak megachurch installs SSL Consoles

OXFORD, England, – Solid State Logic (SSL) today announced that Sungrak Church of Korea has chosen SSL digital audio consoles to spread the word in the expanding religious broadcasting market.

Sungrak, one of the world’s true ‘megachurches’ with some 150,000 members and 220 branch and affiliate churches around the globe, is using the SSL C200 HD console to feed a Meyer PA system for front of house audio while an SSL C300 HD console handles Sungrak’s extensive broadcast commitments.

The 48 channel C200 HD console is quite literally at the heart of Sungrak Church operations. Centrally located on the main balcony of the 2,500 sq m church, the console is equipped with SSL’s renowned DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) control facility.

This allows quick and efficient control of the Pro Tools rig that Sungrak uses for recording church services, as all the transport functions are under fingertip control while the Pro Tools faders are automatically mapped onto console faders.

Accommodating 24 channel strips and some 192 channels of digital signal processing (DSP) within a 1.6m wide frame, the multi-format C300 HD is a big console in a compact footprint, and crucial to Sungrak Church’s ambitious production and broadcast operations. Representing SSL’s most comprehensive audio production solution to date, the desk handles several live multi-language broadcast versions during the services, as well as completing a variety of post production duties.

Some 48 remote microphone inputs housed in two C-SB Remote Stageboxes located on the Church stage are shared between the C200 HD Front of House position and the C300 HD.

Located in the sumptuous production control room at the top of Sungrak’s huge building, the C300 HD provides simultaneous processing and mixing, all within the console. Rapid access and overview of complex mixes is made possible by user-customised channel layouts, 7.1 surround input channels, advanced parameter linking and an innovative scroll function that permits access to hundreds of signal paths from as few as eight faders.

“It has been reported that five of the world’s 10 largest megachurches are in South Korea, with total broadcast figures in the millions,” said Solid State Logic Area Sales Manager Tim Harrison.

“As one of the world’s largest, Sungrak Church is a physically impressive facility inside and out, and the SSL consoles will be major contributors to improving the sonic fidelity and mixing capabilities for their global production operations.”

The project system design and console installation was expertly supervised by Technical Director Jeehan Choi together with President Je Ho Shin and other staff at HanSeo Broadcast and Music Tech Inc, the exclusive distributor for SSL consoles in Korea.

“We are delighted that Sungrak had faith in our ability to meet the complex needs of a massive undertaking in a timely and cost-effective manner,” says Choi.

Sungrak’s Sunday services are broadcast live via satellite and internet streaming, reaching not only church members but also millions of other interested viewers worldwide.
