SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – Studios Gravodisc recently upgraded Studio A with a 48-channel Solid State Logic Duality console. As SSL’s flagship console, Duality brings the power, flexibility and signature SSL sound to the facility, establishing it as the premier studio in São Paulo. Duality is used to record some of Brazil’s top musical talent, specializing in Sertanejo (Brazilian country music), Samba and pop music. Recent recordings include Latin Grammy winner, Daniel, Rick e Renner for Warner Music and a greatest hits project with Roberto Carlos, Brazil’s “Elvis,” for Sony Music.

“When we decided to upgrade the largest of our three rooms, we chose Duality,” says Elcio Alvarez Filho, owner of Studios Gravodisc. “The Brazilian music scene is vibrant and exciting and demands the best from a studio. The response to Duality has been fantastic and, as the São Paulo music community is relatively small, everyone has come over to take a look. When they see the console is an SSL Duality, they are sold. Bookings have soared because of Duality.”

According to Filho, many features of Duality are of particular interest. Duality’s powerful Total Recall™ functions allow for quick and accurate re-setting of the console when clients need to revisit a mix. This has streamlined the studio’s entire mix process over the workflow of the previous console. Duality is also used to control the resident Pro Tools® system. With Duality, Filho and his engineers can now focus on the creative process without the distraction of attending to a mouse. Most of all, however, is the great sound.

“The sound quality of Duality is not to be believed,” comments Filho. “When clients have come in to hear the console, they fall in love with the sound. They want to book sessions and start to create through Duality. They recognize that this console delivers something more to their music. We are very happy with Duality.”
