Matrix @ Studi-Oh!

ROUBAIX, FRANCE – Set midway between the city of Lille in northern France and the Belgian border, Studi-Oh! aims to offer the perfect recording and mixing environment for their clients. With three spacious and flexible recording spaces set around the central control room, Studi-Oh! is ready to take on the most demanding sessions.

One look around the control room tells you that Studi-Oh!’s equipment has been sourced by fanatics of classic circuitry and pristine audio paths. Outboard from the likes of Chandler, Manley, Universal Audio, Drawmer and Amek are in plentiful supply, while the microphone cupboard is amply stocked with Neumann, AKG, Royer, Manley, Avalon…

With so much quality hardware (and software) at one’s fingertips, the Studi-Oh! team don’t need a massive console to pass their signals through, but as fits their philosophy of supreme quality they simply refuse to compromise on sound, which is why they have opted for an SSL Matrix to act as the hub of their bespoke facility.

“I record, mix and master here at Studi-Oh! and you can take it from me that this console may be compact, but it’s hugely versatile,” admits engineer and producer Jeremy Darme.

“Matrix has changed the way we work here at Studi-Oh!. From the speedy DAW control with its customisation and exemplary stability to the access to plug-ins that means you spend a lot less time looking at the screen or using the mouse to control edits and the like.”

“Matrix also totally respects the sound of my mic’ pre’s and mic’s. But on top of that I think Matrix really improves the sound. The summing is fabulous and we also have SSL Alpha-Link A-D converters which are great. So when we’re mixing you can tell that the Stereo image is much more open and the mix is larger… it’s just like magic!”

“We’re running Matrix with Apple’s Logic 9, and from day one we’ve really had no problems. Matrix instantly recognised and the two of them communicate perfectly together.”

So in SSL’s Matrix we have the perfect centre-piece for what we do here at Studi-Oh!. Actually, maybe I do have just one regret – not knowing about it sooner!”
