OXFORD, ENGLAND – Solid State Logic’s design guru and Director of Commercial Applications Chris Jenkins was joined by surprise guest producer/DJ Mark Ronson last Thursday on stage at the 2012 Music Producers Guild Awards ceremony. Chris and Mark jointly presented the Award for Best Mix Engineer to Tom Elmhirst at the event held at the Café de Paris in London. SSL has sponsored this award for the last two years. Tom Elmhirst beat two other nominees, Dave Bascombe and Mark ‘Spike’ Stent – Spike who won the award last year.

Mark and Tom have worked together on several projects, most famously Amy Winehouse’s album Back to Black – Mark as producer and Tom as mix engineer – and most recently on Rufus Wainright’s upcoming studio album Out of the Game, scheduled for release later this year. Mark’s appearance at the MPG Awards to present the SSL-sponsored award was meant to be a surprise for Tom (as well for as the assembled music industry professionals), but the two bumped into each other smoking outside the venue so just before the presentations began…

The last time Chris Jenkins was on stage at the MPG Awards, in 2010, he was receiving the Unsung Hero Award, which honours those who have quietly but dramatically contributed to the music industry. Chris was being recognized for his work in designing so many of SSL’s analogue, digital and hybrid products.
