Future Cut choose SSL

OXFORD, ENGLAND - The Future Cut Productions team of Darren and Tunde are no strangers to working with SSL equipment. In 2006 they worked on Lily Allen’s debut album “Alright, Still” at The Premises studios in London on an AWS 900. They have also worked with Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls), Dizzee Rascal, The Sugababes, Kate Nash, Estelle, and many other chart-topping artists. Recently we caught up with Darren, and he doesn’t seem to have lost his taste for the “SSL Sound”. He told us;

“We have been lucky to be in a position where we get to record in some of the most amazing studios around the world. It doesn't take long to realise that pretty much each and every one of these has at the very least a few bits of SSL gear, or quite often a console. However, being so mobile, we needed to have the freedom to move from any studio we were working in back to our own project studio in London without compromising our sound. The fact that Duende was designed and built by SSL themselves cemented our decision to get our hands on one of the first units and we haven't looked back since. It is like having a full size SSL console in your home studio - that alone was reason for us to buy one.

“Overall our mixes sound crisper and fatter with Duende, but more importantly the Plug-ins have a 'sound'. When working purely within the box this is something that we were constantly struggling to find. The EQs, dynamics and bus compressor have a musicality that are lacking in many plug-ins. There are plenty of EQs out there that will clinically remove or add certain frequencies, but sometimes you just want to whack a load of high end on something or scoop out a ton of bass without thinking too much and knowing that it's going to sound fantastic. We aren't the most technical people so that works great for us! We love the bus compressor - which sits very comfortably over many of our mixes.”
