Czech Philharmonic Orchestra choose Duality

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC – There are surely few classical organisations that boast the reputation of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. This esteemed ensemble has for over a century made the Rudolfinum auditorium its base, a place where many of the world’s finest musicians, conductors and sound engineers converge to perform, capture and mix first class recitals and recordings.

As performance spaces go, the Rudolfinum has seen more than its fair share of history made within the hallowed halls of this magnificent neo-renaissance building. Antonín Dvořák conducted his own compositions here back in 1896, while Gustav Mahler ably led the orchestra when he premiered his now legendary Symphony No. 7.

Rudolfinum Studio is the world class recording facility used to capture performances within the auditorium and it too has an enviable reputation for excellence. Rudolfinum Studio recently upgraded their old SSL 4000 Series console to a 72 channel Duality with full automation and Total Recall™.

“We have had all sorts of artists here at Rudolfinum Studio.” Chief engineer Mr Oldrich Slezak begins. “In my time here we’ve made recordings for a host of renowned classical labels, such as Deutsche Grammophon, Octavia Records, Teldec, Virgin Classics and Supraphon.

“One of the main activities we undertake at the studio is the recording of select concerts for the Czech Philharmonic archive. And we also work very closely with Czech Radio on an array of live broadcast projects. We’ve even been known to record film scores here, which can often involve very complicated multi-track recording set-ups.

“Sophisticated recording set-ups can take a lot of time to prepare, but now that we have 72 channels and the 5.1 film matrix – and, of course, the automation, which is now much more sophisticated and faster than our previous console – we can confidently embark upon very complicated recording and mixing projects. We’ve also connected the Duality to our Pro Tools system so our main recording system can be operated directly from the console. Duality has made a great difference to the way we work here at Rudolphinum Studio.”

SSL’s sales manager, Bojan Kotzmuth; ”As a manufacturer, we are very proud to have our Duality 72 recognized by the Rudolfinum staff. We look forward to supporting Rudolfinum for many years to come.”
