X-Rack gives a sonic boost to Ego

OXFORD, ENGLAND - In net-speak there's a phenomenon called 'egoboo'. It means a boost in reputation, particularly after seeing your name in print. This must certainly be the case for Greg Malocca and Alan Killian from Egoboo Studios in Dublin, Ireland. Following recent projects composing the music and sound post-production for the Lisbon Treaty TV and radio ad campaign, and ad campaigns for Jameson Whiskey, Guinness, and Vodaphone, the Egoboo team were looking to add to their Herbert Lane studio setup.

Early in June Paul Brewer from SSL’s Irish Distributor Audio Warehouse took Greg and Alan to visit Solid State Logic’s headquarters near Oxford, where they were given the opportunity to test the X-Rack, Matrix and AWS 900+ Consoles first hand. Despite having to cut the planned visit short because of flooding (anyone in Oxfordshire will be familiar with this) the guys had the chance to put the various mixing systems from SSL through their paces.

Greg told us “Solid State Logic is one of the leading recording console makers. We were very impressed with their products and decided buy an X-Rack as a mini-mixer”. As you can see from the picture, the Egoboo guys went for an X-Rack with Master Bus module, 2x 8-Input Summing modules, a G Series Bus Compressor, and a VHD Mic Pre module. This allowed them to sum out from their AD/DA converters, running the mixes through SSL’s SuperAnalogue™ circuitry. “The summed signal sounds much better to us than ITB. This is our first SSL piece of kit, but definitely not our last !”
